The General Election candidates for the Keighley & Ilkley Constituency are as follows, in alphabetical order…

Andrew Brons, British National Party

We will be campaigning against all further immigration and for the repatriation of: failed asylum seekers; illegal immigrants; and those who have acquired British citizenship but have committed a serious criminal offence since. There would be generous grants to those immigrants who wished to return to their countries of origin.

We want to see the United Kingdom withdraw completely from the European Union and to use the money that we currently pay as a net contributor to fund generous increases in the state retirement pension.

Nader Fekri, Liberal Democrats

We Lib Dems want to build a free, fair, and open society, where we balance the fundamental values of liberty, equality, and community and where no-one shall be enslaved by poverty, ignorance, or conformity.

We are the third-largest party in the UK. In 2005, nearly one-in-four people voted for us. Unfortunately, that only gave us 63 MPs, whereas we should have had 150 MPs.

We were the ONLY party to oppose the War in Iraq. We oppose the replacement of Trident, and want to scrap ID cards.

We are the greenest of all the Westminster parties, favouring renewable energy against nuclear power, and are committed to deeper cuts in greenhouse gas emissions, wanting to massively expand the rail network

.

Kris Hopkins, Conservative Party

The last 13 years of Labour Government have left our country with a broken society, a million violent crimes a year, uncontrolled immigration, a doubling of our national debt and the longest and deepest recession in living memory.

900,000 young people are without a job or training, and we have an incompetent Prime Minister who sent our troops to war without the right equipment to protect themselves.

It is time for change.

The Conservatives will take the necessary action to get our economy moving once again.

David Cameron made clear that the NHS is our number one priority, and a Conservative Government will increase spending on health every year and make the NHS work for patients not managers.

We will allow police officers to get away from their desks and back on the streets fighting crime.

We will set strict limits on non-EU immigration.

We will create new jobs and more opportunities for people to improve their skills.

We will respect the needs of our troops and give these brave men and women the money and equipment they so desperately require.

And despite the lies spread by Labour, we will continue to support winter fuel payments, free bus passes and free TV licences for pensioners, and we will index link pensions to ensure our older citizens get a better deal after contributing all their working lives.

.

Paul Latham, UK Independance Party

UKIP is campaigning for the withdrawal of the United Kingdom from the European Union to regain control of our law and policy making.

A simple parliamentary majority in the House of Commons would permit a motion to go forward to achieve this. Alternatively a referendum would be held about this, in both instances the result is the same; we would exit in 2 years under the terms of membership.

The £45 million a day currently paid to the EU would be used to reduce the PSBR and revitalise our economy.

We would also close our borders to reduce unemployment by prohibiting migrant workers entering from the EU.

Other policies include abolishing income tax and national insurance contributions for people at the minimum wage level earning £11,500 pa. or part timers on less.

We shall also increase defence spending by 45% and increase our armed forces by 25,000.

A flat rate, non-taxable, Citizens pension of £130 a week for men and women alike.

Our aim is to de-centralize government and  encourage decision-making at a local level by means of referenda. We wish to return to British values determined by the people and not by the politicians.

.

Jane Thomas, Labour Party

Equality and fairness is a core strand that runs through Labour policies. We have made sure that people are treated fairly in the workplace and have equal acess of opportunity in other spheres of their lives -   giving more young people the opportunity to go to university or helping those in their earliest years through Sure Start programmes.

.
We introduced the Minimum Wage to protect those on the lowest incomes and helped families with family tax credits. We have seen the biggest school building programme for 50 years and put extra police back on the beat in communities.
.
Politics and politicians has been discredited by the expenses scandal and it is now time to build trust again with the people we hope to serve. This next election will be one of the most important in recent history and an opportunity to bring about a new type of politics and politician.
